Hi all,

Welcome one and all to the first ever iVillage.co.uk Book Club! Everyone loves a good old natter about the book they’re reading, so we thought why not widen the circle and have the discussions online?

I’m the CL (Community Leader) of One Summer by David Baldacci and I’ll be checking in all the time to see how the discussions are going and to answer any questions.

There are a lot of themes to discuss in this book so I can’t wait to tuck in! I’ll kick things off with a few discussion points, but where the conversation goes is entirely up to you – whether you’re a seasoned iVillage.co.uk board user or this is your first time.

I look forward to chatting!

P.S. Look out the next round of Book Club books later this month.

Please use plain text.

Hi received and finished this book within a couple of days.

Most enjoyable with many twists and turns. Would prefer not to make comments yet as feel it would only spoil for those not having read it yet.

Having recently finished the Harry Hole books by Jo Nesbo - was actually recemmended David Baldacci as an author and consequently ordered some of his books by my Librarian daughter.

Was pleasantly surprised therefore to learn that a free book by this Author was on its way to me and have now finished that before m requested library ones.

Hi Eleanor,

Thanks for being the first person to post in this board, I hope it's the first of many!

Really glad to hear you enjoyed this one. I'm very near the end and hope to finish it today, and I agree that the story has taken some interesting and unpredictable turns - so much so that I have no idea how it's going to end (though I suspect/hope one particular thing is going to happen!).

If there's ever any plot giveaways in your posts, that's not a problem at all, just make sure that you include *spoiler alert* either at the beginning of your message or in the subject line.

Can't wait to get discussing!

Peggy

Hi readers!

Appropriately enough, I read One Summer on a very hot sunny day on the beach.  I found it really absorbing, with twists and turns, but there were some predictable elements.  These did not hinder my enjoyment of the book, though.  I probably would not have bought the book, but it appealed to me the most out of the Book Club selection and it turned out to be a good read.  I'll be keeping an eye out for the author's other books.

Hi gailq, welcome to the board!

It's nice to read something you wouldn't ordinarily go for I think. There's something surprisingly meaty about the novel that doesn't necessarily come across in the whimsical cover or description on the back. I'm glad I chose this one too, makes me realise I should probably branch out a bit when it comes to choosing books!

Hi petitemlod,

Welcome! Once you are registered on our site you won't need to reregister, but you will need to apply for the next round of books once they become available, if that makes sense?

Look forward to chatting!
