repeat of mammogram
HI
I'm a 42 yr old mother of 8. Last month I noticed thickening in one of my breasts. I went to my GP who referred me to a breast clinic. 3 yrs ago I lost 9 stone in weight but kept a 36G chest so everyone suspected the skin changes where down to the weight loss but had a mammo last week.
I was told by consultant if anything showed up she would phone within 2 or 3 days, no phone call. Since its a week I decided to phone for results. I was told I've to go back to the clinic next week for more mammo pics and an ultrasound. I didnt ask why, I was too shocked. The radiologist who performed the mammo did take me back in last week to repeat 2 pics so I had thought she had checked they were readable.
I am trying not to worry but its not the kind of thing I would share with friends and since none have had a mammo couldn't give any info on whether this is common to need a mammogram repeated . My GP did originally say she thought it was fibriod disease but no one else has mentioned it since..

Hello mom insomniac
Welcome to the board (((hugs)))
I can understand your worries, this has happened to me too last November so I know what you are feeling.
The waiting is dreadful, I know ((hugs))
I was totally convinced I had BC because a consultant would not clear my mammogram pictures after repeating them a few times. So, like you I had to wait and go back for another mammogram and an ultra sound..
Because you are under 50 your mammogram pictures may not be clear because of the density of your breast tissue, this makes it hard for the consultants to see some areas clearly and they have to be absolutely certain that the pictures are clear, and the ultrasound is used as they can get a clearer view of the deeper tissue.
When i went for my appointment for the ultrasound they were able to tell me my scans were clear on the same day, I hope you can have your results quickly too.
I really do understand your fears and i hope it won`t be too long now before you can have your mind put at rest.
And you may find they will explain to you that the reasons for your unclear pictures are because of your age.
Remember we are here for you and you can come and chat to us anytime you feel you want to, all the ladies here will understand what you are going through.
Please keep in touch
Warm hugs
Darkwitch xxx
