Ello...

Just wanted to add my twopenneth to this..

Both my DS and DD are autistic and from day 1 my DS has been 'odd'...I say that in the nicest possible way ;o)..

DD was diagnosed this year at the age of 6 and doc has said it can take a while to show up in girls..I just assumed she was copying her elder brother..but had got steadily worse over the past 12 months.

I've never blamed the MMR and both have had the jab when they were due.

But I do wonder if it is hereditary as my EXH is also a highly functioning autistic...my HV smiled and said it looked like I was the only 'normal' person in the household...LOL no comments from those who know me please ;o)

Same with my youngest two (6 and 9) definatly signs there long before MMR in fact 6 year old had his reall late

Thanks for that both, I'm sure to read a few 'positive' experiences regarding MMR and Autism will help to set some peoples minds at rest.

Of course - it's always going to be one of those difficult decisions to make and there will always be people who would swear the MMR IS to 'blame'. I know of one Mum who is adamant that her son 'changed overnight' after having the MMR - but I can balance that out by saying my DS also changed overnight - in a very positive way. One has to consider whether it's just coincidental. I certainly wouldn't suggest the sudden surge in my DS's accomplishments were brought on by the MMR, but who knows!

How can you see that its over 4 years old? If you are refering to the 'see also' articles, they are just that, a reference guide. If you click the link in LATEST NEWS in the yellow section to the right, you will find it returns you to the same page, as it is, in fact, the lasest news on the MMR and Autism link.

B&B, I don't want to sound like a "know-it-all" but the BBC published this article over four years ago. I am a biomedical scientist and while I was doing my degree three years ago, I had to write a paper on the controversy surrounding the MMR vaccine. I referenced this article in my paper. Sorry if I've spoken out of place it's just in my opinion Dr Andrew Wakefield's theory on the MMR vaccine and its link with autism has been sensationalized by the media. The other theories on autism such as Professor Simon Baron-Cohen's theory on the link between autism and fetal testosterone levels have barely been covered by the media at all. My eldest son suffers from Asperger's syndrome. He received the MMR as did my two youngest children, both of whom are neurotypical.

Heavens No. Don't apologise.

I logged on to read it and couldn't find a date, but the 'latest link' took me back to the article. YOu obviously have a lot more experience onthe topic than most of us, so don't apologise, please.

I think that the original pster was probably duped by the BBC much like the rest of us. (Did you see the spoof newscast about the queens b'day party - they have been blasted for it!).

I'm sorry that you felt the need to apologise at all.

Wakefield was so damaging for the MMR and wasn't it just so he could try and sell a different drug he'd developed or something?
