I Recommend.....
Pubs & Bars you've been to.
Just a thread for us all to post any pubs we have been to or bars we've enjoyed going to.
You could share with us what you had and what the place is like along with your thoughts on it and whether you'd recommend it to others who might visit your area.
It'd be great to know where to go if we are on holiday in your neck of the woods.
Cheers !

A surprising pub in a surprising place!
The Bridge Beerhuis in the centre of Burnley is BRILLIANT. I love this pub sooooooo much. There's more choice than you can shake a stick at. There's an amazing range of beers and ciders on tap, including multiple guest ales. The bottled selection is vast too - Belgian fruit lambics (my favourite) as well as beers from all over Europe and further afield on occasion. There are always a few CAMRA members in, so expect to be able to tap into a wealth of knowledge should you have any questions! There's a good atmosphere and folk are friendly even when you're having to squeeze past the beer bellies to get to the bar ;-)
It's on the way through the centre of the town so is the perfect venue for a drink before heading off to Turf Moor to endure the footballing displays of Burnley FC. There's also a quiz night (at which I was rubbish) and food is served daily.

There is one pub I stumbled upon when going to visit my Sister and it is absolutely chocolate box quaint. It's called The Thatch in Faddiley in Cheshire.
http://www.thatch-nantwich.co.uk/
It was closed the first time I found it and would have opened later in the evening but I couldn't hang around but I have been back since and it is lovely inside with nooks and crannies. If that place isn't haunted I'll eat my... anything you like.. lol
Haven't been there for a meal yet but they gave me a menu to take away and read so I am going to go back there soon.
Hugs

The Shady Oak in Cheshire is another pub worth seeking out. It takes a little bit of finding but well worth it. It's right on the bank of a canal and in such a picturesque location next to a little hump backed bridge.
It is worth walking over the bridge and continuing round the first bend and down a little way just to see the back 'garden' of the house there. Stunningly beautiful.
I ate at the Shady Oak and it was home made and very tasty.
Cheers

Found a great pub / Carvery the other night on the way back from Chester. It's called the Wheatsheaf and the portions were the best I've seen anywhere else. The stuffing balls seem to be the same everywhere though and were a bit hard and dried up but everything else was so good.
It had lovely little private places to sit and was comfortably lit, not too bright, just right.

Didn't know whether to put this in with pubs or meals really. Last night we went to The White Lion, Alvanley for a meal. It was a really nice place. There was a good selection of beers, it's a Robinsons brewery pub with some nice ales on tap. I was impressed with the selection on non-alcoholic drinks too - they stock a couple of the Fentimans drinks, always welcomed by me!
The menu is extensive (and available to view on the website) with a decent choice for vegetarians and a great variety of specials too. Everything is cooked to order so a non-cheese eater like me could pick any of the veggie options available which was great. The pub was pretty bust with drinkers and diners but the staff were never rude or flustered and the atmosphere was relaxed and not rowdy. Portion sizes are generous, none of us finished everything and there was no room for pud after a starter and main.
Between us wen went for - black pudding rosti, beer battered brie, vegetable spring rolls, chicken gougons and garlic mushrooms. For mains mushroom and walnut hotpot pie, cheese and onion pie, vegetable stovie, beef and ale pie, chicken and bacon salad and chicken penne. So you can see the variety. Well worth a visit if you're out and about in that area.
And the toilets are beautiful!
