Hi Kirstin

I have never had the problem, but Anita had some sugegstion on this post here

http://messageboards.ivillage.co.uk/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-ukhghousekp&msg=11.1&ctx=0

Other than that I would probably try Harpic limescale remover tablets - i think they are called Harpic Power tablets

The only downside is they need to be in the loo unflushed for about 4 hours for best results, which is a pain if you only have 1 loo

HTH, let me know how t goes

Hiya Kirsten :-)

You could empty out the water and replace with a bottle of coke overnight. It's a bit of a faff though, so think that the denture tablets are the best option :-)

Or Sarah, could you just reduce the water by prodding with a loo brush thehn pur the coke in? It might be a bit diluted but at least it would still get in?

Hmmmm, one to ponder on

Thanks everyone. I did get some denture tablets after reading the other post on here and I also read about it in my Kim and Aggie book (shhh don't tell anyone).

They have worked to a degree (and it's a great improvement. The problem is that they slide to the bottom of the bowl and because front part is curved they haven't really cleared that area.

I will try coke next though and the harpic tablets that have been recommended.

You know I'm wondering if we have caused this problem ourselves by trying to be more eco friendly. Are you all aware of the phrase 'if it's yellow...' OK enough info already!

Thanks again everyone, will keep you posted on loo gate!

Kirstin.

Hi Kirstin
That's exactly my problem and all was fine until I started being greener and flushing less. I have realised now that I need to compromise slightly as there is just me and my small DS (3 years), we are both out all day on weekdays and most weekends also so it just sits there. I think we need to flush before we go out for the day and before I go to bed at the bare minimum. Also, since he's been toilet trained, he can be a bit eager on the flush bit and it's hard to expain not to flush at home, but to flush when you're out etc.

I'm sure we can work out a method that is greener than flushing every time but cleaner than before.

I've tried the denture tablets, so now I think I'll try the cheap cola.

Hi Anita, everyone,

Just thought I'd give you an update on the limescale! I know you must be dying to know LOL.

I decided to buy Tesco home brand Toilet Limescale Remover as it was a lot cheaper than the Harpic version. I know there is always the risk that home brands don't work as well but the good news is it DID! I now have a sparkly loo, embarrassment-free loo again!

Admittedly most of the work had been done by the denture tablets (again went for Boots own brand because at 69p they were the cheapest option) but I also put some of the toilet limescale remover around my bathroom sink plug / plug hole (put the plug in then covered the lot in the solution) and it came up really well.

I have to admit I have been flushing a bit more regularly then I was. It's tricky though isn't it? Do you let the limescale build up again to save water but then blast it with a load of eco-unfriendly solutions to get rid of it?

Hiya

One good Kim & Aggie way of getting rid of limescale either in the toilet or elsewhere is to use a pumice stone. Apparently the punice is harder than the limescale but softer than the toilet or sink, so if you don't mind sticking your rubber gloves down the toilet it's one to try, it's also a very eco friendly way of doing it.

Jane (who's used the pumice on the sink, but hasn't needed to on the toilet YET!)

ooo the pumice stone is a good idea...  we have such a bad build up on our toilet of limescale (that i wish i could say was us being eco friendly, but  with dd6 struggling to get the loo to flush all the way, and dh "forgetting" lol, and not flushing at night after the boy is alseep, its awfull..  every few months i'll give in and use a butterknife and beat the limescale off of the toilet lol...pumice stone sounds a lot easier.. might try the dentures and coke too, bleach just doesnt do a thing for our loo
