Well - I am a sucker for love films, stories, songs ect ect ect! Being a girl, who is extremely obsessed with men (as we tend to be) I just wanted to hear which books any of you recommend for love or unrequited . . .

My favourite read has to be Jane Eyre! If anybody knows any Edward Rochesters in the real world, contact me!!

I desperately need to branch out of Victorian love stories -- any good modern books??

A :smileyhappy: x

Not really a book lover,

I absolutely loved reading Wuthering Heights when I was at school.  I loved how the book described the personalities of the main characters and compared them to the earth  Heathcliff was rough and rugged, worn and weathered.

Catherine was described as calm, beautiful, tranquil etc.

I have to read it again!

SO x

Hi A,

I just finished reading The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and would strongly recommend it! It's a modern day love story about two teenagers who meet at an airport (I promise it's better than it sounds!!)
It's supposed to be as good as One Day (which if you haven't, you should definitely read). I didn't think it was that amazing but still worth getting your hands on:smileyhappy:

Let me know if you liked it:smileyhappy:

Hi A, MIne has to be Gone with the Wind. I read it when I was rather young. It was on the book case at home and I was forbidden to read it . Of course I did read it didn't I . I think my mum thought that I would identify with Scarlett just too much!!!I loved the film as well .Sorry don't have any modern ones to recommend as I prefer biographies and autobiographies  on the whole.

My favourite book of all time is also Jane Eyre !! I have read this countless times and its a book i`d never part with.

I loved the film too.

I can`t think of any modern ones.

Jane

Ah thanks for all of these! I will definitely check them all out. I would love to find something to match Jane Eyre - even something modern! I love Victorian literature but once you've read the classics, you tend to get a little lost! Not the easiest to find new reads . . .

I have been reading a lot of Ian McEwan recently, I find his writing style to be great :smileyvery-happy: I wish modern writers would write less in post-modern styles, it's all fun and easy to digest, but who wants that???

I took that book into hospital with me when I was admitted for bedrest before my son's birth. Trouble was they gave me stuff that made me sleepy so I kept nodding off, never did finish it but loved the film.

I'm not the biggest reader of modern romance, but I noticed a big poster in the library last week for the Romantic Novelists Awards - link is below.

http://www.romanticnovelistsassociation.org/index.php/news/entry/romantic_novelists_associations_awa...

There were a few on the poster that I recognised the authors of, but had not read any myself. But it might be a good place to start. I just wish they would stop with the pastel covers lol!

Enjoy, Laura x
