Hi ther,

Hope someone can help and give some advice. Started a new job last November having just graduated from uni in July. They have just offered me a permanent job which is fantastic and I am taking up the offer, however, something has been putting me off it a little and starting to get to me...

Our new marketing manager started at the beginning of January and although she is a lovely person and I do get on with her, she is so sarcastic and its driving me nuts. I have tried to deal with it by ignoring it, playing the same way back to her, (but I am not a sarcastic person and I can't understand people who are), going along with it and just laughing back, but nothing seems to work.

She jokes that she's going to fire me, that I'm useless and don't work hard. That there's something wrong with me and 'I have fleas' or 'a schizophrenic disorder- I mean what the hell? Its starting to really piss me off. I know they're all jokes but I don't understand why sarcastic people feel they have to put people down the whole time?

Am I just being stupid? Its not like I'm not going to take the job because of her but I'm tired of it...its non-stop, everyday and I don't see the point? Why be horrible to people in a jokey way??

Not only does she do it, now other people play along with her and go along with the things she says to me. So I have 3 other sarcastic people as well as her joking about me being fired cos all I do it sit there and do nothing.

On top of that. If I have a question about something, she is so blunt with her answer and doesn't actually give me a proper one. Its as if she thinks she's amazing and has a 'god, don't you know the answer to that?!' Attitude. She slags people off behind their backs (ok so some people may not have done something completely right) but to call them a f***ing whatever, in my opinion is unprofessional and uncalled for.

Any tips people can give me? I'm at a loss and it is starting to affect me in the workplace..

This is a simply case of bullying and harrassment at work. You *must* tell your employer to allow them to do something about it. You will probably find that you are not the only person to be victimised like this, but it takes someone to speak up before an investigation can begin. Good luck.

So weird, one min she's lovely and she sent me some funny texts last weekend which made me laugh - we have a few jokes in the office. But last night we went out and she brought a friend along (who sat next to myself), she was on the other side of him and then progressed to say 'I'm her boss and it was so funny, I sent her an email (which she did) saying moving everything wbad will be your fault, if its good, it will be mine. Which I thought was a bit unnecessary. Then today she just decides to not give me proper answers to the questions I'm asking her so I have no idea what's going on and ended up sending the wrong thing to someone!!

I can't decide whether it is bullying and harrassment. She accused me of bullying people because apparently I turned the heater round to face me!? So only I was kept warm! What on earth?

Any more thoughts? Cos in general we do get on..xx
