Hi all,

How do you spend your family days out? Do you go on short trips over the weekend and what are your favourite family activities? What is your vehicle of choice when travelling with the family? How do you keep your children entertained while travelling, do you find it challenging?

Tell us now by commenting on this thread (you can share as much or as little as you like) and you will be in for the chance of winning a book set by novelist Sue Townsend (the set includes The Queen And I, Queen Camilla and Number Ten).

The winner will be selected at random. Closing date: 15th March.

We love to enjoy the countryside and take a picnic (sometimes having to eat in the car if it rains)

If its nice weather we make a picnic and go to the woods, or carbooting. in bad weather  we sometimes go bowling or to the cinema - or just to IKEA

I'm lucky - all my family like collecting so we tend to cover the car boot sales and vintages fairs - loads of fun when you find something brilliant!

We sometimes, make a fort in the living room that is big enough for us all to fit into. We let the kids bring their favourite snacks into the fort and play games like Simon says and I spy or play a favourite board game

We also go out. I take everyone to the park, pack a picnic and stay outside all day, play Frisbee, or just chase them around the park. If it is too cold for a picnic, I have the kids help me make some hot chocolate before we head out then pack that away for when it gets really cold.

If we have the money, we like to be spontaneous and surprise the kids with a day at the nearest amusement park or a museum.

travelling by car with frequent stops of at points of interests etc.

Bikes on the bike rack ,picnic basket & outdoor wear all packed, we share where we want to visit,so each of us has our "turn" this is a great way to see what each of us finds interesting...often a real eye opener!! & lots of fun to boot:smileyhappy:

decide on an area....get on the internet & use local tourist guides etc...then each member of the party pick a "day" & say where they want to visit.

We have a caravan and we take the children there as often as possible. They love the freedom they have there.
