When does it get better?

I know nobody can answer that but we still want to know don't we? I want to know when this grey feeling ends because it has hung around me most of my 43 years. Is there any hope for me? I mean really? I'm trying everything, counselling, spiritual healing, learning a new vocation, trying to make more friends, going out more, loosing weight(three and a half stone) and guess what I still feel like crap!! It's like nothing can get through to me,my head wants to do its own thing regardless. I have fibromyalgia and am told it will never go is that the same for depression that goes with it? People like spike Milligan and Wilson Churchill had to live with it,is all we can hope for is to feel a bit better sometimes? To be honest I am only here for my kids as I could not put them through what I went through with my mum. Feeling pretty scared right now.i took them to see a film yesterday which was far too loud and fast paced for me,it totally blew me away. I've always been massively over sensitive I'm bored of it now,it is a liability, yes it's nice for some things but my god it's very hard living with it. I couldn't even cope with a kids film. Have just wanted to sit in a quiet room all day and hide. Sometimes u just have to do these things for your kids. What a crazy mad life.

It can be hard to manage sometimes can't it?  I think that depression is a weight we carry around and it would be nice to lift it off now and again.  You've posted on here which I find for me is a help, not trying to struggle along on your own and getting some support.

It sounds like you're doing all the right things to help yourself.  Maybe you need to step back and have a rest to recharge your batteries.  I'm very sensitive to noise too and I sometimes just have to switch everything off, lock myself away and chill for a bit to get back to normal.

I hope you feel better soon.

I know from experience that it is possible to live with long term depression and anxiety. I've had it best part of my life but, with medication when needed, I generally enjoy life.

I think one of the tricks is to go with the flow when the black times hit. Not always easy I know!

Please though, anyone reading this, don't imagine it is all a lost cause if you are still struggling. By far the greatest number of depressions are relatively short term. Even  with long term experience like mine there can be a lot of good days. Like any other chronic illness learning to "live with it"  leads to less stress.

Gentle hugs Ali. Please be gentle on yourself. I know you have had a great deal of extra stress to deal with, chronic illness and bereavement, etc. Just one of those things on it's own would be more than enough to cope with, never mind having it on top of depression.

Sorry, can't remember if you are on any medication. Might be worth going to chat with your GP anyway and se if there is anything else that might help you come through this.

Hugs

Thanks again guys. Yes I do think it's a life long thing for me and learning how to manage it is very important. I have now realised that I have been neglecting all my self management techniques and that's when I start to go downhill again. I have stopped doing my tai chi, using my colour therapy cards,my psychic tarot cards, all this really helps. I do take quite a few meds for my fibro which includes an anti depressant. I have had a better week, faced a few things that were troubling me,have started at the gym am getting help with training my dogs, have a very good counsellor to offload onto and helps me look at how I can improve things. Yes I did have one dark day but it came and it went and I carried on as normal.i am really starting to get the be nice to yourself thing. I've also realised that I can start letting old emotions go,that they don't have to stay with me and I can start letting new more positive ones in. I hope this gives others hope, that by truly nurturing yourself instead of beating yourself up you can start to turn things around. I know I will have more dark days and I know u guys will be here if I need you but hopefully the dark days will get less and less and if I take one step back it's ok as it could be I haven't been looking after myself as well as I should be.

I am so pleased to hear you sounding so much more positive and also feeling you can embrace the fact that if you do get a bad day, you will come through.

It is always so encouraging when we read this type of post. Gives us hope for ourselves. We may not have people around us to give us TLC but we should do it for ourselves because we are worth the effort and we all have value.

I am just so happy for you Ali :-)

Hugs

Good that you are making some progress again and finding ways of coping

I posted the following on the MInd Body Spirit board today, you might like it:

"7 lovely logics:
1) Make peace with your past so it doesn't spoil your present.
2) What others think of you is none of your business.
3) Time heals almost everything, give it time, some time.
4) No one is the reason of your happiness except YOU yourself.
5) Don't compare your life with others, you have not idea what their journey is all about.
6) Stop thinking too much, its alright not to know all the answers.
7) Smile, you don't own all the problems in the world."

I found it on Facebook.
