Slightly O/T but.... HELP!

Ok so we went round to the house we are moving to last night and were planning out the bedroom, when hubs noticed that the window was actually single glazed, not double as he had expected - turns out the back of the house (1 bedroom, bathroom & kitchen) have single glazed, shatter-safe glass, which means it breaks easily and doesn't cut you if you have to get out in the case of a fire. This is likely to break if hit by a stone. The neighbourhood is not the worst in the world, but a stone being thrown has a fairly high probability.

So, we were going to put the head of the bed at the window, but now we are worried! Can anyone suggest how to make the window safe i.e. not fall into the room if broken?

The room is fairly small, so there are no other ways that we could fit our KS bed with space at both sides :smileysad:

Hi EF,

I know some people who live in Northern Ireland and years ago they would always have net curtains or voile type things at the windows that they'd have weighed down with heavy ornaments so if there was trouble - bricks thrown, explosion, gun shot etc the window would break but the fragments would be prevented from getting into the room by the nets.

Another thing you might try and I don't know if this would help, would be to get some window film (I think Wilko and places like that sell it). It will offer some insulation, it's easy to remove and might hold the pieces of glass together if it shatters.

HTH

thanks Sam - I was wondering about that window film myself. Maybe combining the two ideas will be enough! :-)

I've never used the film but I've heard it's really good. It's worth a go I'd say.

Another vote for the window film stuff.

In World War Two - no I wasn't around then!! - folks would put some sort of parcel tape, criss cross fashion, over their windows. Not suggesting you do that but anything that holds the glass in place slightly would help.
