Not speaking
Hi All
My son is nearly 20months old and he is not saying anything at all. He understands what you say to him for example I told him him to put away all of his cutlery that he had taken out and he put them all away no problem. Or if you ask him to come here etc he will but he just does not say a word! he makes a lot of noise but none of it is even remotely word like.
Is this a problem? I thought he would at least be saying mam or dad by now.
Thanks Emma

Hi Emma,
You might find something on this board http://forums.ivillage.co.uk/t5/Development-Delay-
I know my sister's little boy has had problems with this and is being helped with it.

my DS3 was slow to talk but by 21months he could count to 10 and speak in two word sentences etc so think it is definitely worth following up on

Hi
He has just had his first speech therapy session this week and he has started to say a few words. Mostly the dogs name but it's a start. He was sent for a hearing test and they discovered he had glue ear which they think is the reason he wasn't speaking. apparently that is starting to clear up and we starting to notice the odd words and he is babbling a lot when he's playing now.
So we are getting there.
Thanks for asking and for previous advice

Hi Emma,
I'm really pleased that things are slowly improving. It's good that they found the glue ear which is something they can do something about to help make a difference.
Good luck with everything.
