I am hosting a Bunco party at my house next week. I need some quick food ideas. I won't have a lot of time to spend cooking. So I would like to know if anyone has any ideas for something quick and easy.

Hi there Graffix535. Welcome to the board! I usually find it easiest to cook for a party when I decide on a theme for the food, ie Mexican, classic french, healthy, Italian, etc. A good lasagne or other casserole is always a crowd pleaser and can serve a lot of people for not too much money. Also, do you have to cater to vegetarians or other picky eaters?

I find it best to start off with easy nibbles: peanuts in bowls, crudites, a cheese board and crackers, etc that people can nosh one while settling into party mode. Then a salad or soup -- these can be as inticate or easy as you like. Then the main, then a dessert.

Since you have time to cook why not splash out on the dessert and make something really special: a cake from scratch, a fruit tart, cobbler or crumble. Since it's the last thing guests will eat, it will leave them with a great memory of the party!

hope this helps. anybody else have ideas out there?

Jen

This is probably a stupid question and I'm really showing my lack of knowledge here, but what is Bunco? My husband seems to think it's a card game. In any case, you need a big pot of something easy to dish up so people can eat while playing and not require a lot of fussing about with knives and forks.

How about a nice pot of chilli, you can serve it in bowls with spoons and put out big bowls of taco chips to go with it. There's a chilli article on the website somewhere with lots of recipes, even vegetarian, which meat eaters will love too. You could make a batch of cornbread to go with it (this can be made in advance and frozen--make them in muffin tins and pile them on a plate for everyone to help themselves).

Or Jen's idea of a big lasagne is also a good one which can be made in advance and is easily eaten from a shallow bowl or plate with just a fork. A green salad and some crusty garlic bread are the perfect accompaniments. Mousaka is another great party dish. It isn't difficult but does take some time to prepare and assemble all the component parts.

Keep the pudding simple as well, how about some rich chocolate brownies served with ice cream. They can also be made in advance, cut into squares and frozen.

As you can see, I believe in simple entertaining, especially if there's something else going on like Bunco. Just make sure there's enough beer and wine and soft drinks to compliment the food.

Hope it's a smashing party!

Terry
