Just been diagnosed with Mild BPD - a bit scared!
Hello
I posted for first time on here last week and got some lovely support and replies - thank you. ![]()
After further investigation and talks with doctor and my therapist, I've been told I have mild Borderline Personality Disorder. My therapist and I did some tests and discussed it, and this was her conclusion. She said mine is very mild which I guess is good, and she stressed that she hated the terminology for this condition, which I agree sounds awful!
I have done a little bit of online research and certrainly many things seem to fit into place and make sense to me the more I read. I feel relieved a little bit too as I feel Like I sort of know what might be wrong with me - I've been struggling for years with feeling sort of abnormal, empty, lonely, emotionally unstable and scared.
But I feel a bit sad too and a bit scared. I am scared if I tell anyone this they will reject me (I feel like a lot of my friends have already backed off from me and now I'm sure it's because I must be a bit odd!) I'm also scared I'll never have a normal loving relationship and live a life without mood swings and emotional issues.
My therapist has been lovely and we will work on this together but I wondered if anyone had been told they have something similar and the best way to proceed? I have not told anyone apart from my best friend and he was lovely.
Thanks for reading!

Hi,
How good you have a lovely therapist, it makes the world of difference.
often it really does help to have someone put a name to those emotions and feelings that have beem overwhelming us. It also means that it is easier to get the correct treatment that will enable recovery to take place. As you say, it is scary but remember, it is just a name for your illness, it doesn't define who you are. Hopefully your friends will be understanding and now you have a name to pin your explanations on when you talk to others.
Sorry if that sounds waffly, not in the best place myself right now
Hugs

Hi
Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone with this diagnosis. I have BPD and it can be scary. reading everything online can be daunting .
I remember to myself that I am me and nothing else wil change that.
I take things a day at a time and if people dont like me its there tough luck.
you are strong bright and intelligent person .....and I send you loads of HUGS (((())))
Dont be scared .. I know it is easy to say that but you will cope and be okay.

Hi Funkycleopatra,
Be brave and be different. Celebrate your difference, your quirks and all the other things that make you you. Please don't ever try to squeeze yourself into the same box as everyone else. If your friends have backed off then it probably means you are ready for new friends or that they need to find a way of adjusting.
You don't need to tell anyone anything about your medical condition if you would prefer not to. You are far more than a name of a condition.
Nothing about you prevents you from having a loving relationship. You will learn more and more about your health and this condition and you will no doubt meet others who have the same condition who are wondering what it is they are dealing with. You might be able to provide answers for them. Others with this condition will no doubt help you understand and cope better. And so life goes on, living, learning and growing and we become wiser, more compassionate people as a result.
Your best friend was lovely. His understanding and depth of character shows why he is your friend and what is possible.
Owly x

hi again
Some definite positives since your first post. Actually having a clearer idea of your condition will help you with medication and treatment. Good too that you have such a good counsellor (worth their weight in gold) and that you have a supportive friend.
Have you thought any more about medication? Worth discussing with the counsellor but I can understand you might not want to be on medication.
