Is this a time to be polite?

Quick question!

Anytime mother in law clears out clothes, she gives me 1st dibs before she takes them to her sisters and friends. My question is, should I offer her the same courtesy before I take mine to the charity shop? The reasons I am considering not bothering are 1. I want the clothes gone and don't want to draw out the process any further and 2. I am concerned that some of the clothes I want to give away are clothes that MIL gave me in the first place!

Trouble is, I don't want to offend MIL because she is a total gem!!

Hi EF,

second attempt at replying.

Personally I would quietly get rid of stuff. I had aa similar problem with my mum so I used to send the stuff to her favourite charity shop ( Age Concern). If she mentioned anything she had given me I used to say I didn't wear it enough so thought it better for it to benefit another person and her favourite chairty at the same time. Far from being offended, she was quite happy.

HTH

Hugs

thanks everyone - as it happened, I was over ruled anyway and DH said I should let his Mum have the clothes in case her sister wants anything... I think he was more keen on this because it was easier than taking them to the charity shop - he is that lazy at times!

Bottom line is, they are out of my possession and therefore out of my mind! Woohoo!!

As long as the stuff is out of the house that's the main thing! If the assumption is that whoever passes the clothing on doesn't want it back and the next person keeps or passes the things on that's a good thing imo, it means nothing is hanging around and things are moving all the time to someone who wants them. Well done :smileyhappy:
