IVF no.2 could do with some positivity!

Hi all

Haven't been on the boards for a long while.  We've been trying for a few years for no. 1 but I think my age is against me.  We've had one round of IVF which didn't go well as none of the eggs fertilised.  Was told that my eggs have an unusually thick outer layer which means the sperm can't get through.  They don't really know why this is and at the time  I was absolutely devastated, but have decided to have to have one more go.

Am due to go for egg collection this week, probably Friday and starting to feel really emotional about it all now....have been really good at not getting my hopes up but now starting to really let myself hope it might work.  This scares me so much as if it doesn't this really will be our last go at it and then I might have to face up to reality!

Anyway, would just be nice to hear from a few of you out there and here your stories so that I don't feel like the only one going through this type of thing

I haven't had IVF, but just wanted to wish you well and hope this time is successful. Try not to worry (I know, easier said than done!), but stressing isn't going to help, so do something nice for yourself to help you relax.

Sending you tonnes of baby dust x

Hi!  Thanks for replying, it's always great to feel there is someone out there listening!  So far so good I think.  We had EC yesterday, only collected 5 which is less than they expected to get but was told this morning that all five have fertilised even one that they thought yesterday was low quality, think they are surprised with that one.

So due to go for ET on Monday afternoon and yes we have been advised tohave assisted hatching which we are doing.  My fear now is that we get to Monday and then they tell us that none progressed far enough to do the ET.  Not naturally a pessimist just scared to hope too much!

Would love to hear about  your experiences and any advice you can give xxxx

Hi,

Wishing you tons of luck and keeping my fingers crossed for you. 5 eggs with 100% fertilisation rate is great. In the IVF game, quality is more important than quantity. Please try not to overworry and believe in your little embies. Assisted hatching is definitely a good idea as it can help with implantation in case of hard shells. Just try to be as relaxed as possible during transfer. Rest for at least 30 minutes after ET, don't move and if you could take a few days off after ET (2 to 3 days), this could help. If you manage to take some days off after ET, bed rest is the best and generally taking it easy. No heavy lifting, light housework only for the next 3 weeks for you. Allow yourself to take it easy and think positive.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hope ET goes smoothly and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Love

Elody

Hi cl-elody

just wanted to give you an update! Clinic called this morning and all five eggs, even the one they thought wasn't great quality had progressed really well! So we have been so lucky and they have put two back and frozen the other 3!

I can't believe it! I know we can't celebrate yet but I just feel for the first time in a long time that something is going our way.

Another question though....all the ones they put back today had divided really well...up to 9 or 10 cells etc...does that mean my eggs are of pretty good quality despite my age? And...does that give me a 'better' chance of them ' taking' or is that just pot luck???

Sorry for my lack of knowledge!

Hi gal

So good to read your reply, have been off work since ET on Monday (going back tomorrow) and going a bit stir crazy now - far too much time to sit and think.  Every twinge 'means something' or not!!

Did you have many symptoms that you remember from the 2WW, they said to me that implantation would probably be yesterday or today but I don't knowif  that's too early - EC was Friday and ET was Monday (is that day 3??) Was having quite strongish cramps yesterday evening and very early this morning but quite mild and virtually non existant today.  Have no idea what to expect! Also have a bit of a headache but think all of that might be more to do with the drugs etc.

Congratulations on your good fortune, it's so encouraging to read the success stories xx

Hi,

9 - 10 cells sounds good showing your embies were growing and dividing well. Sounds good.

Love
