Help! 9 week old twins

I know this board is quiet but hoping for a bit of help!

My ID twin girls were born 9 weeks ago at 34 weeks gestation. They were in scbu for two weeks. When we brought them home they were so quiet and good, slept loads..... not anymore!

I'm up with the twins pretty much all night. If I'm lucky they will both settle around 4am but then up for feeds an hour or two after that. They will each catnap at night but one will sleep, the other will be awake. They don't settle well unless they are held and even then they don't settle. I've just had twin 2 screaming for an hour... and it's 2am. I'm exhausted.

I've tried to sleep in the day but often again, one twin will sleep and the other is awake plus I've got two other kids aged 12 and 6.

I read on other sites how hard it is having twins but never believed it! Lol!

Will it ever get easier? Any tips for helping them settle? We have a swing chair, tried swaddling, dummies, infacol nothing works!

Hi Bex, huge congratulations on the birth of your beautiful twin girls. I have to say my girls never slept at the same time so I know how exhausted you will be. My son was 11 when they were born, but I remember days when he was at school and I was home alone lying on the couch and sleeping .. even though one baby was awake as i just couldn't physically stay awake. We tried lots of combinations .. me upstairs with one baby and hubby downstairs with the other, this actually worked best as at least you could sleep when your baby slept. Again .. during the day .... if I knew they were ok I would fall asleep on the couch. Our girls slept best when separated at night .. so usually one in the bedroom and one in with us (this was when they were a bit older). We only got them to sleep in the same room when they turned 5!

I'm not helping am I? I think if they are not sleeping any better then you could try the one baby each scenario. And also, your 12 year old should be able to help do a feed and a nappy change if you find you can't keep awake. If you are having a nap on the couch you subconsciously hear what is going on around you, so you would be aware that baby was being taken care of, but would also wake up pretty quickly if it sounded like something was wrong.

Wish I could offer better advice, but we really muddled through the first 6 months grabbing sleep whenever and wherever we could. Do you have any help?
