... do you plan to buy anything special for them when the new baby arrives?

We have thought about this, and as my boys will be 6 and 8 when lil missy is born, we are expecting quite a few visitors and gifts from crazy obsessed family members (mostly DPs side as it's his first born), and we don't want the boys to feel pushed out or jealous of her. So, I have decided to buy them both a Nintendo DS, SECOND HAND of course, I refuse to spend an absolute fortune as it is more of a present to make them feel they have something aswell, rather than something for an occasion or good behavious etc, plus it's right in the middle of their birthdays and Christmas so they won't need anything extravagent!

The idea behind the DS is, my boys are game crazy, have a Wii console but fight constantly over it and what they want to play, and I figure with a DS each they will be obsessed with it, meaning they are happy enough to play alone when baby NEEDS complete attention. I hate to think that if my boys have nothing to do when she is tiny, that they will come asking me for things or to play with them and I have to say no to them, so i'm hoping this idea will help with that issue, at least when they aren't at school!

I may be thinking too much into this, and also not sure if i'm really thinking about making THEM happy or making it a little easier on myself!

Yes, my mum has already bought something for my son to have once baby is born and we will also buy him something from the baby. He'll only be 20 mths, so as long as its vehicle orientated I don't think he'll be bothered either way!! C x

I used to but as my three eldest will be 17, 15, 12 I think they are old enough to understand plus the 12, and 15 and 7 year olds would have just had their birthdays I normally buy them a book of the baby so may do this with seven year old and two year old even upto the fifteen year ok'd cannot go wrong with reading, plus Christmas a couple of weeks later may get the oldest a bottle of aftershave or character pj bottoms xx or after all that just leave it xx

We are going to get something for our two although I don't know what yet. Very nervous about how DS will be as middle child! May do a goody bag type thing - big bro / sis t shirt etc. Also go to plan in a cpl of outings minus baby mayb Chill Factor for one & seeing Santa. Baby having nothing this year from us! Although he will have new outfit of course ;-)) So excited to meet little kick-monster! Jill x

When ds2 was born I just bought ds1 a big bro t-shirt and book. He did get sent a couple of things from family but nothing major.

I think it's a good idea, when my son was born my daughter was only a year so it wasn't neccesary but if I hear of friends having little ones or parents of my children's classmates I aways make sure to get he older child a gift too. Some parents give the older children presents from the new baby and to be honest with two boys already anything that smooths the transition for them (and you!) I don't think is wrong.
