Just wondering what people's opinions are of the craze of posting things on your Facebook status to raise awareness of breat cancer.

The latest is to put 'I am ...weeks and craving...' on your status (how many weeks you are depends upon which month you were born in and what you're craving depends on the day you were born). Several friends on FB have done this and of course people think they're pregnant.

I personally do not understand how this is supposed to raise awareness of breast cancer and it seems a silly and inappropriate thing to do. Maybe it's just me being a grumpy cynic ?

Hi,

I think it's like anything on facebook, take what you like and leave the rest. Loads of stuff on there annoys me so I just ignore it.

My cousin has the "I'm ... weeks" thing up at the minute and although I rolled my eyes at it many of her friends have asked her what it's about so it does work and it is a way of making people aware (her mum, my aunt, has cancer at the minute). So I find them annoying personally but I also think it gets people talking about subjects they might not discuss otherwise. If one of my cousin's friends learns something she might not have known about breast cancer before then it's done a good job imo.

It's not just you. I found them stupid and offensive before I had cancer. Now I just think they're stupid, as don't have the energy to be offended! Haha! :smileyvery-happy:

They seem very 'strange' to me too. I think the idea behind it is that people are intrigued and spend time trying to find out what its all about but I don't think it raises awareness and maybe at the beginning it 'might' have but now I am tired of getting confused at statuses... :-S
