Hi All

My SD was askling while we were in the library whether the Duck was the little duck's Step Mummy or Mummy (She is 4), and when I said Mummy,it was like a switch was flicked and all she did was say how great her birth mother is and she like nothing about me.  She is still being like the switch flicking when she gets happy doing things with me.  She shes her Mum for contact 3 times a month for an hour a time, court appointed Care Order.  She lives with her Dad and me.It has been since January 2010.

I think she is looking for my role as Step Mummy to be in print.  I have tried the library but the don't have any.

Please can you help,

Kate X.

Hi Kate. I saw this post on Hot Topics and, of course, recognised the name.

Sorry you are still finding things so difficult. One question though. Did step daughter actually say she didn't like anything about you, or was she just praising her birth mum? Only asking as it wasn't that clear from your post. Little one may well be praising her birth mum as she needs to be sure she is actually loved by her. In your case, because you are the main carer, could be she gets cross when you are the one making the rules. Does that make sense?

I don't know of any book for children that helps with step mums or dads. If you are sure she really is wanting a book you could suggest that you made one between you. A scrapbook of some sort where you could write down the fun things you do together. Be aware though that this might just have been a passing comment by SD that affected  you badly because of your emotional/health struggles. Whatever happens, just keep reassuring her that you love her lots and lots too.

hugs
Tabbs
