Hi there all, the sun has decided to come out and play today and with it has brought me inspiration to do some gardening. I'm wondering what things to plant and also a spot for the children to grow their own, and I'm thinking what is the most child friendly veg for them to grow and look after?

Hi,

Children usually like to see quick results so growing cress on the windowsill is always a favourite. Carrots from seed are also easy and can be grown in deep tubs. Sunflowers are very good as they love seeing how high they can grow.

It is worth mentioning that children who won't it vegetables from the supermarket will often eat the ones they have grown.

Edit to add: Tabbykitten , who is the CL of this board, is a very keen gardener so I am sure will have loads of tips to share with you.

Just so happens I've got the perfect link, saved on favourites for a 2year old in the family who is going to start gardening this year:

Hi,

Potatoes are easy to grow. Marrows are also easy and good for kids as they can see them while they're growing unlike the potatoes which grow in the ground. Peppers are also nice for kids to grow. You can dry the seeds from a pepper. They can then see the pepper grow and change colour as it matures.
