I've a friend who has just discovered her teenage daughter is self harming. Any suggestions of where she could seek help? Her daughter has just started doing this, so it is a very new issue.

First stop have a chat with a GP, they should be able to refer them to the right service. For the mum there will very probably be a support group nearby, if not there are online resources.

I agree that the doctors is probably the best stop first off. I hope she can get the help she needs as it must be a worrying time for your friend.

Yes, she's going to take her to the docs. Just wondering if there's anything else she should do....hoping doc is supportive, sometimes they can be a bit funny about self harm.....

Thanks ladies! X

See what the doctor says first. There's no point in trying to second guess them before they know whether the GP will be supportive or not. If they don't get anywhere then they can always ask to see another doctor or to go through school/college where there will be a nurse, student support and stuff like that.
