Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has any yummy ideas for BBQ food, whether its food to cook on the BBQ, a side dish for the table or a marinade - all comments gratefully received.

I'm hosting a BBQ for my DS's 4th b'day on Sat so am looking for inspiration and the WOW! factor!

Many thanks!

Hiya

I went to a friends BBQ the other week and she had marinaded the chicken drumsticks and the sausages and raggae raggae sauce for a good few hours before they were whacked on the barbie, they were lovely, certainly had a kick to them!

Hiya Debs!

Im looking for ideas too so will keep eye on your thread.

Im going to make potato salad which always goes down well at any bbq.

new potatoes, then add chives (dried if necessary) then add mayonaise and salad cream to taste. if you can add it when pots are still slightly warm it seems to work better. Chill til needed.

xx

another one we add, which isnt strictly BBQ is a chili.

I make a very basic chili, mince, chilli powder, peppers, mushrooms, onion, some tomato puree, mixed beans and pulses (tinned with chilli sauce) and baked beans

I keep it in a giant pan on BBQ and have small baked potatoes and grated cheese and soured cream to add.

Hi Debs,

Fruit kebabs always gone down wel for desertl. Chunks of whatever fruit you fancy, strawberries, peach and grapes work really well and chunks of mars bars, bbq until the chocolate just begins to melt yummy!

Hi Debs,

Rice salad goes down well at our BBQ's.

Cook some rice(basmalti or normal)leave to cool. Then add some chopped cherry tomatoes, cucumber, spring onions, and some peanuts(could leave these out or add later).Add some chilli powder and that's it.Could add more stuff to it if wanted up to you.

Can prepare before BBQ and leave in the fridge too.Its one of my favorites.

Love,

Lisa xx

Hi

Have you seen the BBQ stuff on the site? Take a look at http://www.ivillage.co.uk/food/partyfood/Barbecues/snap/0,,164362_717505,00.html for some ideas

bit late...

anyway, we always get cubed meat (chicken, pork, beef - we even had just (unintentionally!) had rabbit in Spain!), and marinade in whatever you fancy - i'm a bit of a chilli & lime obsessive (squeeze lime juice over the meat & sprinkle with chilli powder), but just do whatever you fancy....

thread on skewers, and whack on the barbie...

we used to make them all prettiful, ie. mushroom, pepper, meat, onion, tomato, etc

but now just do skewers with each different ingredient on, and then when they're cooked just fill a plate with it (DH doesn't like peppers or onions)

anyway they are very delish!

also make your own burgers, our favourite is turkey & apple, recipe should be in the mains folder...

think we had this thread last summer (wow is this board that old??) so have a scan through too!

hope it went/goes (didn't register what date you posted, sorry!) well & the weather stayed nice!
