Anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi everyone,

Not been around for a long time but I've recently come across a problem and unsure what the answer could be.

7 weeks ago on Thursday evening I had a bit of an upset tummy, felt a dull ache and was suffering from some flatulence.  The next morning it felt worse and had slight diarrhea but I had my great uncles funeral to attend so went to the chemist and took some tablets.

I was fine then for a week but then the following Friday I had a small pasta pot for dinner and felt lack of appetite and generally unwell a little queasy.  I had a sausage roll for my tea then within an hour had awful abdominal cramps and when I went to the loo had severe diarrhea so I took the tablets again.  Felt fine again for a week but then same thing Friday night.  I decided to have a weekend drinking lots and lots of water and I was ok after that for weeks.  However, I did then start to notice anything I was eating, I was physically hungry again around an hour later, stomach rumbling etc as if I'd skipped the meal even though I'd eaten same as always either pasta pot or sandwich etc.

Also anytime I had a large meal to try and fill me up properly to avoid the severe hunger resulted in a weird stomach gurling noise and then within half an hour diarrhea.

I had a week off work last week so went to the doctors last Thursday to get some advice and she stated I possibly had a tummy bug and its upset my digestive system for a while afterwards.  She asked if I ever suffered from IBS before, which I havent so didn't mention it again.  I said I have always yo yo'd with weight and didnt want to be eating more even though my body seems to be burning things off at an alarmingly fast rate.

She has given me some tablet to take before meals for 2 weeks and if theres no change I have to go for blood tests and provide a stool sample.  The tablets I am on are for IBS and nothing really as far as I can see has changed.  I am having to eat every hour or so (trying to eat little and often like a few crackers, usual sandwich for lunch, apple an hour later, then my tea and sometimes more fruit an hour or two after that but I still wake up so hungry I have no energy, feel weak etc (like you do after an illness when you couldnt eat for a few days).  This cannot be normal when I have eaten more than I used to the previous days.

I have not changed my diet nor done any form of exercise.  My daily routine hasn't changed in the slightest.  I tried to incorporate more fruit and veg and drink nothing but water but it still hasn't changed a thing.

I would think my metabolism has randomly decided to speed up immensly but due to my body even burning larger meals off at such a rate I cannot understand it.

I have read that IBS is a lot of diarrhea whereas I only suffer this if I eat like a 3 course meal.  If I eat standard meals I dont suffer diarrhea it just leaves me with an empty stomach again an hour later and I think this is why my doctor doesn't think its IBS and I am hoping it isn't with there being no cure.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this or can offer any insight as I am at a loss.  I dont own a set of scales so unsure if my weight is dropping but I do feel like I am going slimmer.  I tried at first not to eat anything extra incase it was all in my head, but when I didnt I woke around 4/5am with stomach cramps as it was so empty it hurt.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi,

I have not experienced anything like this in the past but I have started to develop some odd happenings after eating products containing wheat (gluten) so I am thinking it might be connected to bread, etc for me. Have you got any sensitivities to any food groups? It might be worth writing down everything you eat, the time, the amounts and what symptoms you get following it as it may through up a pattern for you. Checking food ingredients might also shed a little light on it.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hugs

Hi thanks Jill,

Yes I forgot to mention I have started to make a food diary since I started taking the tablets last week. I have never had any sensitivity or food allergies before, however, I know these can suddenly crop up but so far the only common result is always being hungry or eating more at once results in an upset stomach. Doesnt seem to matter what I eat.

Its very confusing :-/

Thanks again
