Do you check your breasts regularly?

Are you breast aware?! We all know we should be checking them regularly, but for many of us our good intentions - mine included - fall by the wayside. But, it's important to examine them regularly, to know what is 'normal' for you so that you know if any changes occur that you need to check out.

Remember to repeat this during different times of your menstrual cycle as they can be different at varying times of the month. Here is the NHS guide on how to check your breasts - go on, start a healthy habit and check them now, then put it in your diary to check again in two weeks so you know what is normal for you at different times of your cycle!

Hi Anna,

I don't tend to do it deliberately or at any set time but I am aware when showering to be alert for any changes. In the past I have found a lump in my breast and went through hell for the time between finding it and getting the all clear. Actually it went away by itself the night before I was due to go into hospital to have it removed. It had already been decided that it was benign but it just went and I proceeded with going to hospital but told them that I thought it had gone, so they checked and it had.

Since then I've also had some strange pains in one breast which I had checked out and that was also normal. Apparently when a woman goes through the menopause one breast or the other will start developing pains.

I know it's scary and we're looking for something we really don't want to find but honestly even if someone finds a lump it will either turn out to be nothing or else it can be sorted the quicker something is found.

Well worth doing.

Oh Owly, that must have been so scary. I'm glad all turned out ok in the end, it just hits home the message that it's really important to be breast aware.

I am going to make a concerted effort to do regular checks, if I dont' know what's normal for me I may not realise when something is different,

I totally agree, the sooner we seek help for any changes or lumps the better the outcome in the end,
