Nell Piper's arrival...
Woke up on Staurday 28th still not feeling hopefull that anything would happen any time soon, but when I went to the loo I had had a show, I still decided not to get excited as this little lady had kept me waiting so far...
A midwife came round at about 10.30 to give me a sweep as had been previously arranged. The community midwives had been great and were trying thier hardest to get Nell out in plenty of time for my youngest daughter Darcy's first day at school this Friday.
Anyway this midwife said that she was going to be brutal and was I prepared! I said do anything... She took about 5 minutes up thier sweeping round and having a rummage. It wasn't too bad and by the end she had got me to 2cm dilated.
I had more bits of show from then on and was really achey. I was still trying not to get hopeful! I had a few contractions in the afternoon but just the odd one here and there.
I think labour started properly at about 7 oclock, I was having irregular contractions some lasting 20 seconds some 35 seconds, but I remember that this was the same for DS2 and my labour was only 1 hour 45 minutes. Still I did not want to get hopeful so I bounced on my ball and watched tv in our room. By 8 I thought I had better ring the midwife for advice and she suggested I go in to get checked.
We put the kids to bed (me through gritted teeth muttering hurry up to DH). DH put the tens machine on me - which was funny as we realised that we had not read the instructions and could not remember how to uses it (laid back 5th time parents or what)...I did not find it funny at the time and was reading the instructions through contractions.
We got on the road and DH who was paraniod about me giving birth in the car drove far to fast to hospital! He got very stressed when we got stuck behind a tractor - I was trying to calm him down...I still was not regular and was worried that I would be sent home.
Got to delivery suite at 9.05 and was greeted by my friend who is a midwife who said we had her - I was soooo chuffed. She is so lovely and very very good.
She took my obs and got me the gas and air for if I needed it and said it looked good as my cheeks were flushed. She did some paper work and examined me about half hour after I got there. I was 5cm dilated - yay!
Things got intenses after that and I stopped talking (as I usually do) and hung onto the gas and air for dear life! I heard Linda (midwife) and DH palcing bets on when I would deliver Paul said 15 minutes and she said 10 - all good!!
Suddenly things got really really really painful/intense and I got that push feeling...
I said push and within a minute Nell arrived and she was lovely.
Linda was right as I delivered in the 10 minutes she had predicted at 10.29. A 3 and 1/2 hour labour.
The first words she heard on the outside was me swearing a few times about how painful that was - I blame being drunk on the gas and air!
Paul cut the cord and the placenta was delivered - apparently I had quite a small one and not much water. She weighed in at 7lb.
I was just over the moon and even on the 5th time it does not get any less special...
I had toast and a bath and she fed twice and we were allowed home. All very surreal as we left exactly 4 hours after we arrived.
The children had been in bed when we left and so in the morning when they came in one by one and saw her was so special (DH managed to video it).
The whole experience although very painful was fantastic - DH was brilliant and having my friend delivery Nell was amazing and made it even more special...
Worth the 6 day wait past my due date, she was born on the anniversary of when DH and I got engaged...
Our family is complete...
